So roll out the red carpet, here comes Children's Bedroom Makeover Accessory Project #1...
What does every great kids bedroom need? Think smaller than the obvious here...it's something that doesn't even technically go in the room...figure it out yet? It's a door sign! What kid doesn't love announcing to the world that it's their room; especially in a fun and creative way that show's a bit of who they are/what they love?! For our daughter that means horses and the color red, and while we could've transformed her old rectangle door sign to match the new theme, we ended up finding a hidden treasure at our local Goodwill store for just $5 - score!

- removed the ribbon, dried flowers, and wood flowers
- sanded it lightly to remove the remaining glue from the dried flowers and the glossy clear coat
- spray painted the whole sign black
- spray painted the wood flowers white
- bought wood letters from the craft store and spray painted red
- added white polka dots to the letters with craft paint and a toothpick
- spray painted the nail heads for the flowers and reigns red
- used wood glue to attach the letters
- re-nailed the wood flowers and new ribbon for reigns
- hung sign on door, adding double sided sticky tape in spots so that it doesn't swing and clang
So there you have it - an original My Guy & I DIY children's western bedroom door sign! And since we had most of the materials left over from other projects, the only other thing we had to buy to complete it was the letters which we got for another $6, bringing our total for the project to only $11!

What an awesome transformation. You're right, I'm sure lots of people passed that up because it was outdated and dirty. If they could see what you did...thanks for the inspiration!
